Scone recipies
I've had several people ask for the recipe for the Bacon Onion scones I made a few weeks ago. The pic of them is further down the line. So, here it is.
First off, the easy way to cut butter into flour. Freeze butter for 20-30 minutes, then grate it with a box grater. Put back into freezer until nice and hard, then add to flour, and press in with your fingers until well integrated. SO much easier than trying to add hunks of cold butter to flour, and makes for much nicer baking.
Heat oven to 400 degrees
In skillet over medium heat cooked
4 pieces bacon, chopped ( I use center cut bacon all the time, less fat)
1 med onion chopped
about 4 mins or until bacon is cooked. cover mixture and chill until you're done with the butter.
In bowl, combine 2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cut 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter into flour mixture.
Mix in bacon/onion mixture
Add 3/4 cup Milk ( you could use buttermilk as well)
On floured surface, shape dough into 7 inch disc. using floured knife, cut dough into 8 wedges.
Place on greased baking sheet ( I use parchment paper).
Brush with lightly beaten egg.
bake 15 mins, or until golden brown.
Cool 5 mins.

The Hez is in a baking mood

Tomorrow is my Mom's Birthday, and since we are very very Iirsh, it's a big deal. I'm making dinner on Sunday for everyone, and I bake all the stuff from scratch, so instead of a cake, I'm making some cookies, spritz and a Macadamia irish Creme ones, and some Soda bread, and scones. I made bacon and onion scones tonight, and they turnd out fab! Here's the proof. We need smell-o-web installed over here :)

Anyone up for BBQ?

It might sound cruel, it may look cruel, but hey, it's about fucking time that they put Barbaro to rest. They should have done it as soon as the injury happened 8 months ago. They could have squirted out his sperm and he'd still have had his legacy, now we remember him by how much pain and torment he went through suffering for 8 motnhs while the doctors and owners hoped to cash in on his fame. Rest in peace Barbaro, it was a long time coming , honey

The Children of Men

We went and saw this movie last night, and I have to say it was fantastic, well acted, well scripted, well cast and well directed. I now know the book differs in several ways, but I think they did such a fine job at the movie itself that it isn't going to detract too much from the book.
There was a lot of action, some humour breaks sprinkled here and there, and a good amount of suspense. The movie is set in 2027, and the human race has become infertile, and in chaos from the depression and despondency. Clive Owen plays the protagonist and he does a great job of emoting the events going on in the movie. I'm a horrible reviewer, but I have to say, for both of us to like a movie this much, it's gotta be something.
