Latest Abby pics

I got a few Abby pics. I'm hoping that my mother will bring more down when she visits this weekend. It's sad I never to get to see her! She's 5 now, and garduated pre-K and loves hanging out with her daddy!

Wilmingotn, NC June 24-26 2010

Well, after realizing that we hadn't had a getaway with just the 2 of us in 6-7 years, we agreed it was time to get some "us" time. We wanted somewhere close and not too expensive since it would only be able to be a weekend, so we chose Wilmngton/Wrightsville beach, NC area. It's a 2 hour drive away, and while we were spoiled with Nj's close proximity to everything, it wasn't too bad. We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham in Wilmington, and it was really nice, clean and had a great free continental breakfast where you could make your own Belgian waffles. How great is that?
They also had hard boiled eggs, which I love at con, breakfast for the protein, since they are usually just danishes, toast etc.
The first place we went was downtown Wilmington, which was a cute, quaint area just a few blocks by a few blocks. It had a lot of residential streets before the shopping district. It was filled with these gorgeous trees, which i think were Cypress. I'm not sure though, they had this mossy curtains hanging off of them and overhanging the street, and the homes were a gorgeous mix of Victorian and Colonial, with lots of brick, columns and beautiful architecture.
The battleship NC is docked in the river there. Having been on the battleship NJ, we felt we didn't beed to go see this. I mean, unless you're a history or naval buff, they are pretty much the same, ya know what I'm saying? On our side of the river, there was a small plaza and memorial park, and the concrete benches were all sponsored by local businesses, so we were delighted to see one becnh paid for by The Crazy Horse and Pure Gold, 2 local strip clubs. Way to go girls! LOL
The rest of the area has historic shopping, The Cotton Exchange, cute little boutiques, eclectic shops, and lots of bars & eateries. We didn't stay long. It was 102 degrees with a heat index of 112, and it was just stifling! Plus many of the businesses were closed due to water main break somewhere in town. Just our luck, right?
We ate that night in a small chain place called Sticky Fingers, which sold BBQ and ribs, etc. We had an appetizer of loaded french fries. I had smoked meatloaf with a whiskey BBQ sauce and sweet potato casserole.
It was really good. The restaurant was cool cuz they had 6 different kinds of BBQ sauce on he table you could choose from.
Chris had a pork platter, LOL. sausages, pulled pork, coleslaw and collard greens. I'd never eaten collards before so had to try. Not my fav thing in the world, i found them on the bitter side, so did Chris. We had a free peach cobbler for dessert, and it was mighty fine, i telly ou especially thr price tag!
Sunday started out with he Fort Fisher NC aquarium.
It's on the small side compared to others we have been to, but with an $8 admission, well worth it! It had some gorgeous specimens of jellyfish, saltwater fish, a huge ocean tank complete with sharks, a monstrous Moray Eel and a diver feeding them and answering questions. They had a local area exhibit room too, with snakes, local river and lake species, and a white alligator named Luna! We went to Fort Fisher beach afterwards and spent an hour or so there.
It's a quiet, clean beach with free paring. Gotta love that! It was quiet, I think because of the overbearing heat. We dipped our feet in the water and it was pretty windy so actually being there on the beach was comfortable.
Heading back to town we drove through Kure Beach and Carolina beach, the "it" beaches in this area" The street was lined with the huge condos/home painted in sherberty lollipop colors and cute restaurants and those quirky art deco building from years ago. It reminded me a lot of the NJ shore area, so it made me really happy. We stopped for lunch at a local diner-y type place called Jimbo's. The food was decent but not great, but I enjoyed the old style diner atmosphere. Plus, they had cucumber salad! Where do you see that out? It was so good too. Chris, however got a glass of sweet tea dumped on him from the poor elderly waitress who was all tuckered out at the end of her day. Luckily, not too much got him though.
We went back and took a nap since the heat just drains you, ya know? We decided to drive to Wrightsville Beach, which is the closest beach to Wilmington. The town of Wrightsville is very beachy scene with open air bars, eateries, etc. It's also a popular vaca spot, even though here they charge for parking, it wasn't too bad. $12 for a whole day? Come on NJ'sians, that's nothing right? LOL It was 5pm and since they don't charge after 6pm we got away for $2 for 1 hour. A pittance.
The beach here was a little busier, and there is this huge concrete fishing pier that you can pay $1 to go out on. We walked on the beach, dipped the tootsies again, and watched pelicans flying around. We did go up on the pier, some crazy guy jumped off of it into the ocean, it had to be 30-40 feet drop. What a nut, luckily for him, he was ok.
Someone had caught a small 18 inch shark while we were up there, so we got to look at that. After about an hour we had had enough of the sand sticking to our sweaty bodies, so back home to shower and figure out what's for dinner. We enjoy finding local places and wanted to avoid chain. You can eat that anywhere right? So we decided on this place from our phones directory called Elziabeth's pizza. Yeah, I know it sounds like a college hangout with Formica tables and grease everywhere, but sometimes those are the best food, so off we went.
The place actually turned out to be in a strip mall, so we were nervous, but upon entering we were completely surprised. One funny thing is that they re was a bar next to it, that had a marquee announcing a cornhole tournament, we took a pic of that cuz it's just funny, not realizing that Cornhole is now some bar game. Who would have known? We've never heard of it.so anyway, the restaurant had a cute atmosphere with the big Italian mural, dark wood booths, these awesome palm fans that moved back and forth to circulate the air, and postcards inlaid in the the tables from Italy. It smelled so good in there, that ours mouths were watering pretty quickly. We started with a bruschetta appetizer.
It was so good that I knew I was gonna have a great dinner.
I had ordered lasagna and wasn't disappointed, it covered the entire platter, yes not plate, PLATTER! It was gigantic and probably the best lasagna I've ever eaten. Sweet, rich, meaty and cheesy. Oh MY!
Chris has a meat tortellini that was just as huge as mine. He certainly enjoyed that. The salads were a little bland and regular, so nothing spectacular there. We skipped dessert since we couldn't even finish our entrees, but they came back to the hotel and got devoured before we went to sleep after watching True Blood. haha
The next day was our last, and we just went back to downtown Wilmington and hit a few other stores we missed the first time around, it was cooler (minimally) since it was morning, but we quickly got pooped and left for home, but not before taking a pic of this quirky window dressing with a Mae West Can Can inspired Pig?
The store wasn't open, so we couldn't go in and see what was in there but that was crazy enough!
So as, you can tell, we had a great time and am hoping to go back one day for more beachy experiences.
The rest of our pictures are here in case you want tyo peek. I aspologize for them being so out of order, They were taken with our cam,a nd our phones, since I forgot our cam battery charger.

It's like Thunder, lightning, it ain't so exciting!

Summer is here in NC and that means vicious life-threatening thunder/lightning storms. I feel like I should be in Tornado Alley even though I know I'm not. Tornadoes happen too though, and I saw one 1 mile from my house last year but failed to get pictures. So we have frequent storms, sometimes every night. Here's some pics Chris was lucky enough to capture. He's a lightning snob and doesn't record them to video and get screenshots, he wants to get them the old fashioned way, quick fingers. LOL
The reason why it isn't exciting is that I absolutely am terrified of lightning. I was in a hospital when I was 4 or 5, getting some kid r elated stitches and this kid came in who had gotten struck by lightning. Seeing him was a horrible experience and has spooked me for life with lightning. I used to hide in my mother's powder room, which had no windows, because I don't even like to see the flashes, so you can imagine how wonderful all these storms are for me. OH MY! I knowosme people love them, but not me, I'm getting a little better than I used to be, since Chris really calms me, but I'm still flighty. hee

This stuff really works.

OK, whoever thought of putitng twine colored carpet in homes is crazy. This stuff shows EVERYTHING! I hate it. So anyway, I had the carpets professionally cleaned last year and the stains I had showed right back up after a while. Before I had them done with a different company and spend another $150, I figured I'd try a stain remover myself. Now these are general dirt stains, something would spill,I'd try to clean it, and it'd be worse :( There were some cat yak stains, but no urine Thank God MO is a perfect toilet boy!) so no smells to worry about. So I bought this Woolite Oxygen PLus stain remover at Traget for $3.50. Of course I am skeptical, and cursing these twine carpets. I tried it on some places last ngiht and defitnitely worked! I was really surprised and happy. So I haad a really tough spot right by my kitchen and garage door. It gets spills and most of the traffic of us coming and going, and had soem really dark stains I figured would never come out. So here's the results, It isn't perfect, but so much better than what it was, so I don't have to be emabarressed as mch anymore. LOL I might go over it again next week to see if I can get even more out. It also seems to continue working as it dries so it will be lighter.

I still owe money to the money i owe

High Violet form The national came out today, and I've listened to it already 6 times. I can definitely say this is my new favorite album, at the moment of course.
My favorite song so far is Bloodbuzz Ohio. It just has awesome, poignant lyrics, on spot music, and Matt Berninger's (sp?) voice is top notch as always. I hope you'll pick up the album and enjoy it as much as I have been.

Stand up straight at the foot of your love
I lift my shirt up
Stand up straight at the foot of your love
I lift my shirt up

I'll rest my eyes till the fevers outta me
I'll rest my eyes to the rivers in the sea
I'll rest my eyes till the fevers outta me
I'll rest my eyes to the rivers in the sea

I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees
I'll never marry but Ohio don't remember me

I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know

I'm on a blood buzz
Yes I am
I'm on a blood buzz
I'm on a blood buzz
God I am
I'm on a blood buzz

Lay my head on the hood of your car
I'll take it too far
Lay my head on the hood of your car
I'll take it too far

I'll rest my eyes till the fevers outta me
I'll rest my eyes to the rivers in the sea
I'll rest my eyes till the fevers outta me
I'll rest my eyes to the rivers in the sea

I'm on a blood buzz
Yes I am

A vacation surprise.. kinda

When we just went back to NJ for family visits and for a wedding, we had to board our cat Moby, mostly because my husband doesn't want anyone coming in our house to feed him, etc.
So he goes off to Town and Country Animal Care Center. This is also his vet's office. I call it the kitty spa. I'll explain. People today fawn over their pets in ways unthinkable 20 years ago. I have no problem with this. my pets are my children, in every sense of the word, but i DO realize they are animals and not humans. So, while this is not a uber posh hoighty toighty place to board your furry loves, it is crazy. You can see their videos here.
Town and Country
The videos are mostly dog related.
So OK, you can get an idea of what the place looks like in general form their website.
The cattery consists of a room with enclosed cubicles on one wall, the wall is glass and the backs of the cubicles are clear. It faces a landscaped area of a pond/bird feeders, and trees. They have a TV playing "cat TV" constantly for those not interested with the outdoors. They also have a side of the room with several cat condos, and perches for climbing fun when the cats are allowed out for exercise. They also have one of those 5 foot tall stone facade waterfalls, resplendent with plants and real fish for the cats to watch.
It's quite a setup for an animal that sleeps 70% of the day.
You can see form their website that dogs have real toddler beds, they can also have nature walks in the woods, play in a man made pool for water loving pooches and for those special moments, private one on one time with a human on a couch and TV. I only hope a jar of peanut butter is not involved. All of those extras are extra fees as well, naturally.
So anyway, Moby has boarded there several times in the past, but we got a surprise when we
picked him up this time. Mo got a report card! I nearly laughed in the cute blonde's face when she handed it to me. I guess owners like to know what their pets have been up while they've been away cavoritng. BTW. The workers there love Mo, cuz he is a loverboy, and they commented on how he snuck into other cat's cubicles to eat their food,a nd ruin a visitors black pants with his ever shedding white fur. LOL
So I figured i would scan his report card to sow you what they do.

and of course, what post about Mo would be complete without a Mo pic?

Something new

Well, this is certainly nothing important to the masses, but for us, it was a big deal. LOL
We've had the same bedspread for 4 years now. I loved the style of it. It looked like an Amish quilt, we had purchased it form JC Penny's when we moved in together. The only problem, it wasn't warm enough in the winter, and because it was more like a quilt it was stiff, slightly too small for our queen sized bed, and had the tendency to travel over the bed at night and end up on the floor. So I had been thinking of getting a new bed set for a while now.
I didn't want to stray too far form the color scheme though, since my lamps and curtains were staying. Anyway, while we were up in NJ visiting, we had to do some shopping right? I swear I never have any problems finding exactly what I want up in NJ. LOL
So we hit the Marhall's in my old home town. It's definitely one of my favorite stores ever. Lo and behold, the perfect comforter, super soft, cool yet warm, 300 thread count cover. I was pretty excited, it even came with the shams and 3 decorative pillows! Plus is was $90 for the whole shebang. So I snagged it, and it's great. It's super big too, so it actually covers both of us even when i twist up. I am a world champion bed twister, doncha know? So, here's a pic, revel in it's glory. Haha.

Time to dust off the blog

It's been a good 6 months since I posted anything here. I guess it's mostly becasue of Facebook. The people that would read this are my friends there, and since I post tidbits there often, it seems redundant to post here as well, but Imma try to get a little tinkering going on here. I still am not sure about what yet, but we'll see.
Raise a glass, here's to the future!

Abby at halloween

Abby had 2 costumes, one a kitty and the other she was Ariel, the Little Mermaid.
Cute huh?? heehee
They pic of her on the floor is at her daddy's party at his karate studio, so I don't know who they are.
The pic with the 4 kids on the stairs is her, her cousin Paige is Little red Riding Hood, unfortunately I have no idea who the other 2 cuties are. I sure miss seeing them, but I was glad I got to see kids this year over my friend's house. I invited myself over to give out the candy because i needed a serious kid costume fix after not seeing 1 kid last year! I was so depressed. LOL

Witchy Hez

I've been a scary witch before, and this costume inspired me to be a cuter Autumn witch this year for Halloween? What do you guys think? I added the leaves and seeds to the costume and broom to emphasize the Autumn part of it, it had the green fringe and the peachy orange flowers on it when I bought it. I was so happy this year because I went to a friend's house and she got kids trick or treating! We have none in our apt complex, and I missed seeing little ones last year sooo much, so i was really happy to some cuties in costume this Halloween! The pic form work is me and my manager Krystal.

Morrissey Video- Irish Blood, English Heart

LOOKIE

Morrissey March 11, 2009

Life has been pretty boring lately, yes. But we did get to go see Morrissey perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center ( DPAC). It's a new center and really beautiful, with big comfy seats great sound, and small enough that there isn't a bad seat in the house.
So here's a few pics for you to enjoy. i have a video of the encore, but hafta figure out how to make it smaller so it will fit on Youtube.

Ok, of course this isn't Morrissey, but some dude who looked just like Christopher Walken in his crazy stages. Complete with crazy hair. i wish i could have gotten a better pic but it was too dark and he was too far away in the front row in a suit, Umm, free tix perhaps? he didn't stick around for long, that's for sure. LOL

Ok, I have NO problems whatsoever with homosexuality, but that's the GAYEST backdrop evah! Indeed it is! LOL

Obligatory strip down and shirt toss, to which 5 late 30 something women all dived after and fought over.

2nd shirt and I guess best pic of the bunch, we were a little far away to get too many good closeups, even with my awesome cam.
We had an awesome time and it was a good set, although i really didn't know most of it since Chris is the bigger fan than me, but the encore was Irish Blood, English Heart which was great to hear. We also stood outside for 1 1/2 hours because the tour buses were on the side of the building, but he still snuck out of the parking garage in yet another bus, so we didn't get to catch him. I suppose we're lucky he even played since he cancelled all but 1 (say 5) of the previous shows. It was also a hoot to see how many people (male and female) who jumped the stage and attacked him for hugs. I mean, really, the dude is 50. *gigglesnort*. Craziness. i hear the show after ours in Richmond, Va was even worse because the stage was only 3 feet off the floor, so people were jumping onstage in droves. LOL. n the vid I have you can see a bit of it, and the security guards booting people offstage. Oh MY!!!!

Golden Globes

I'm a little ashamed to think I saw almost none of the movies up for nomination this year. With exception to The Dark Knight. I can't really name one other that I have., but I watch these things anyway, to see what the ladies wear, to give props to those who do the work, etc etc.
It seemed to be a nicely sappy ceremony this itme, with lots of heartfelt thanks and tears, especially form kate Winslet. I am looking forward to seeing both of the movies she is in, The Reader and Revolutionary Road. I'm glad she won for both films, I think she is a fine actress and seemingly down to earth and nice to boot.
I suppose we all knew heath Ledger would win for The Dark Knight, although I think they could have given it to osmeone else as well. Poor heath.
I was pleased with the show, no corny hosts, no musical numbers, but plenty of glitz. The Oscars could take well note of it, and no speeech form the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press. Way to Go!
I've added a lot of itmes to my watch list, whic never seems to end, but eventually theyll get done.

Heza Christmas- a little later.

I believe this is 1972, so I was 13 months. Red and white Gingham? Where's my hood, ma? What big teeth you have Grandma! heehee. Of course, i had my obligatory mary jane shoes. I wore those things until I was about 8. The dog's head in the corner was our Weimeraner, Val. We had several, and my parents bred them. I don't really remember Val, but we had one named Sam, that I really loved.

Heza Christmas- The Early Years

As early as one can get I suppose. I am less than 1 month old here, but I have a huge stocking already. LOL. I have another picture where there is a dress for me next to my carrier, speaking of which, how safe was that cheap plastic monstrosity? How did we not all fall out and crack open our skulls? I'm not even sure it had a belt in it. LOL Love the cardboard fireplace also, how 70's chihc? I do not know who or what the Oscar te grouch thing is for. I was too young, my brother would have been 6, so possibly for him.

Christmas Circa 1944

Here's a picture I found while searching for something else. This is my mother, the baby eating the christmas bulb *OMG* with my Aunt carol, with bow in hair and doll.
I am assuming my Mom is about 18 months here or so. hard to tell, and no date on pic, but her bday is March 17th, and she doens't look much older than 1 here.

Enjoy. maybe more vintage holiday pics coming.
